Visit in October for Kids Free month — 100+ San Diego venues offer free children’s admission, including many museums and attractions.
Several stops are free: Chicano Park, The Embarcadero, Old Town State Historic Park, Gaslamp Quarter. Budget restaurants like Las Cuatro Milpas and Tasty Noodle House are under $10/person.
Use a National Parks annual pass ($80) for Cabrillo National Monument entry — pays for itself if visiting other parks on the trip.
Day 1 is designed for Saturday to catch the Little Italy Mercato Farmers Market (Saturdays only, 8am–2pm). Plan accordingly or swap Day 1 activities if arriving mid-week.
Las Cuatro Milpas is cash only and often has a line. Bring $20–30 cash and arrive before noon. The line moves fast and the food is worth the wait.
For Cabrillo National Monument tide pools, check tide charts ahead of time. Low tide exposes the most sea life. Bring water shoes and avoid touching the creatures.
Day 3 includes a 30-minute drive south to Las Americas Outlets and 25 minutes back to Gaslamp. Pack car snacks and entertainment for younger kids.
October in San Diego is mild (70s) but mornings can be cool near the coast. Pack layers, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes — this itinerary covers a lot of ground.
Swap stops, change dates, add your own picks. Rosie keeps the rhythm intact.
